Dear friend, we know that you like wine and its extremely beautiful nature. Just like us! We offer you a memorable trip to north-western Bulgaria – it is just what you are looking for…
In the afternoon we depart to the north. Within 3 hours drive, we reach our accommodation – a small charming hotel surrounded by nature. If the weather conditions are good we may have a bonfire in the yard and a nice chat with our very friendly hosts under the stars or enjoy a typical local meal in the cozy “mehana” (not included in the price).
After breakfast, we will take an easy walk to the closest cave, situated near the hotel. The cave is newly open and you can see different rock formations – stalactites, stalagmite, and even helictites (a formation that grows sideways, not up and down as usual). Then we will head to one of the eco trails, spending the day walking around nature. We will see the natural rock phenomenon, the Belogradchik fortress (built-in I-III AD by The Romans to guard the routes in the area), and more. In the meantime we will have a stop for a wine tasting in BOROVITSA – an artisan winery, producing distinctive, even memorable wines by experimenting bravely with famous international and less known indigenous varieties, capturing successfully the unique local terroir… Only 2 Bulgarian wineries are being sold in Berry Bros. & Rudd – Britain’s legendary wine and spirit merchant, est. in 1698 and one of them is Borovitsa! In the late afternoon, we are going back to our hotel for a rest and overnight.
On the next morning, we are going to visit Magurata cave – one of the best-preserved caves in Bulgaria. Thanks to the prehistoric paintings from 7500 BC, it is among the essential extended European decorated caves. But that’s not all! The constant temperature of 12 C˚, the darkness, and air humidity in the depths of the cave create the best conditions for the natural fermentation and storing of the natural sparkling wine. In a unique ambiance – the so-called Bat Gallery we will savor the excellent wines (not only sparkling) of Magurata winery. It is a rare experience as the place is steeped in the history of thousands of years, myths and legends of ancient times…
From there we will depart back to Sofia in the late afternoon.
